A Yoxall bird lover was bowled over when he received a personal note from famous wildlife expert and celebrity Sir David Attenborough.

Sir David sent the hand-written note to Brian George in recognition of his expert knowledge as an ornithologist and contribution to raising awareness of the birds in and around Hoar Cross.

The note reads: “Dear Brian George, I hear that your bird talks are very popular and a great success. Congratulations. Best wishes, David Attenborough.”

Brian George received the letter of recognition while residing at Hoar Cross Care and Nursing Home.

Here he spent his time penning his autobiography called ‘Searching – Volume One’, and sharing his vast knowledge on bird watching with residents through his regular talks on the subject.

Joanne Scott, operations director at Hoar Cross Nursing and Care Home, said: “Brian was overwhelmed to receive a letter from Sir David Attenborough, it means so much to him to be recognised for his local work in raising awareness of the birds around us, how to spot them, care for them and ultimately appreciate them.

“We framed the letter and presented it to Brian, who now lives in his own home in Yoxall as a lasting reminder of the contribution he has made in raising awareness about the nature around us.”
