Your Life at Hoar Cross

Most People Comment "I Wish  I'd Done It Sooner" Soon After Moving Into Hoar Cross

What will your life be like at Hoar Cross?

Moving into a residential care home is a big step for anyone and you and your loved one are bound to have lots of questions about what their new life there will be like . So we've detailed below a few of the most common questions we get asked to help you get a full picture of what they can look forward to.

Where will my home be?

Hoar Cross is a wonderful place to live

Being surrounded by acres of landscaped gardens and with stunning views across the agricultural land in the hills of the ancient Needwood Forest, Hoar Cross is ideal if you like nature and the countryside.

The home itself retains the grandeur and character of its 1794 roots and combines them with the convenience and useability of modern accommodation and facilities. There are a variety of room sizes, views and levels of luxury so we're sure to be able to find the perfect fit for your requirements and budget.

Life at the home is vibrant with lots of activities and entertainment when the mood suits you and lots of places for peace, tranquillity and solitude when it doesn't.

Hoar Cross is the epitome of traditional 'country manor' style living and decor combined with contemporary facilities and equipment. It truly is a unique and highly desirable place to live.

I would highly recommend Hoar Cross Nursing Home

I would highly recommend Hoar Cross Nursing Home.

My mother is being very well looked after there and has been for 2 years. The staff and nurses are so friendly to the residents and to their families and friends when they visit, they treat my mother with respect too.

The food is excellent and they have a very varied menu with good, old-fashioned food.

Is there a garden?

Wouldn't it be great to be here?

Yes! In fact Hoar Cross is surrounded by 3 acres of lovely landscaped garden with idyllic English countryside beyond. So, if your loved one enjoys the outdoors they'll be spoilt for choice.

The grounds are beautifully kept with manicured lawns and shrubs and extensive flower beds that are a riot of colour in spring and summer. There are easy to navigate pathways for gentle walks around the property with extensions into the adjoining countryside for the more adventurous.

At the rear of the home there is a patio area with planted flower beds and hanging baskets. There's also seating where your loved one can sit and have a cup of tea, a natter with friends or a bit of quiet time for reading a book or contemplation.  It truly is a lovely spot.

The garden is used throughout the summer when we regularly hold tea parties, garden parties and other events which your loved one can enjoy. You're more than welcome to come along and enjoy it with them too if you'd like.

As you'd expect being located in the middle of the countryside, the home has a variety of visiting wildlife that brings great pleasure to many of our residents. There are many wild birds and small mammals as well as the ducks from our duck pond, which also contains Koi Carp fish.

What will my room be like?

Spacious, Well Appointed Rooms With A Comfortable Bed For A Great Night's Sleep!

There are a variety of room styles, shapes and sizes at Hoar Cross so you'll be able to choose something that is exactly in line with your taste and budget. All rooms are comfortable with a light and airy feel while many have views of the garden and surrounding countryside and garden access via a patio door. Whichever they choose, your loved one's room will be tastefully decorated and well equipped with everything they need for daily life.

This is their home so we'd love them to bring their own ornaments, treasured mementos and small furniture items to make their room feel comfortably familiar. We'll even decorate it in line with their personal taste to truly make it feel like home if they'd like.

Another rare feature of Hoar Cross is our six double rooms, which are obviously ideal for couples. However, for those who have never lived on their own, it can be a comfort to continue to share a room with someone of like mind. Similarly, if your loved one is living with dementia and is used to having someone around, they may feel more safe, secure and comfortable sharing a room.

Whatever the situation you're sure to find something to match your requirements at Hoar Cross.

How will I spend my day?

Want to relax in one of our comfy sitting rooms or join in the fun activities? - The choice is yours.

There's never a dull moment at Hoar Cross!

So,  from exercise classes to live music performances, group games to walks in our spectacular grounds and shopping and church visits there's sure to be something that suits them perfectly.

If they like a little pampering and treats (and who doesn't!) we also have regular visits from the professional hair stylist and all manner of masseurs, aroma therapists and beauticians can be arranged on request for that extra special something.

We also have our own mini bus so your loved one can join one of the many outings we have  to the villages, churches, and places of interest, both locally and further afield.

A list of activities is published each week at the home as well as being distributed in our weekly newsletter. So you'll be able to see what's available and come and join your loved one if you'd like. Here's a selection of recent activities.

Will I enjoy the food?

A great place to meet up for a chat and enjoy our delicious and nutritious meals.

Definitely, if you like tasty, home cooked cuisine.

Our decicated team of three Chartered Institute of Environmental Health trained cooks prepare a variety of delicious and nutritious meals that will have your loved one eagerly anticipating every meal time. Ingredients are sourced locally, freshly prepared daily and served in our spacious airy conservatory dining room. This is the hub of the home and everyone looks forward to both the food and the chance to have a natter and a catch up with friends and staff members.

If your loved one has special dietary requirements we'll make sure they're accommodated and there are always alternatives if ever they don't like something that's on the day's menu. Similarly, although the catering team take great care to ensure everything is fresh, your loved one can have whatever they want (so don't worry about that special hankering for Angel Delight or Heinz Cream of Tomato, it's no problem!).

You can also rest assured that all the food is prepared in the safest, most hygienic environment.

Who will be looking after me?

What we believe to be the best team in the business.

Your loved one needs to know like and trust our staff members completely if they are to feel comfortable in letting them care for them - and so do we. That's why we employ nice people. We don’t employ people to be nice.

We have stringent, in-depth recruitment procedures to ensure that only the most caring and understanding of individuals get to care for your loved one. They are selected not because they want a job, rather because caring for people is their vocation.

Qualifications and experience are clearly important and ensuring high standards for these are also crucial factors in deciding who joins our team.

This all means you can rest assured that your loved one will be looked after by a highly skilled, highly trained, expert team . More importantly perhaps is that they'll become trusted friends and companions that your loved one will be comfortable with when dealing with the more sensitive aspects of personal care.
